Why do our elders and senior citizens have such high suicide rates?

People ages 85 and older had the highest rate of suicide in 2023. The group with the next highest rate was ages 75-84. Seniors are susceptible to social isolation, disconnection, and loneliness. Multiple studies suggest that our social networks decline as we age.
