Veteran Suicide Rose in 2021

According to the latest Department of Veterans Affairs report, suicides among the veteran population were up 1.8% from 2020.

Here are a few quick stats from the full report:

- veterans are nearly twice as likely to die by suicide compared to civilians

- an estimated 17.5 veterans died by suicide every day in 2021

- fewer than 40% of suicide deaths involved individuals who recently used VA health services

- firearms were used in 72% of veteran suicides compared to 54% of civilian suicides
